Big, big problems. (norton; suprise, suprise)?

i recently downloaded a file that had 8 counts of spyware on it, i could'nt delete the spyware and when i went to delete it manually in 'regedit' the files were'nt there, i scanned again with norton and the files did'nt show up on the scan, after this my norton antivirus full system scan stopped working and wont scan past file 950. my java scripting has been disabled and i cant run online scans without norton popping up tellin me there was a big problem and i could send an 'error report' or not. i used yahoo anti spy and i found one trojan and many tracking cookies, i tried to delete the trojan and it said it could'nt, i recently downloaded AVG and it did'nt find any of the spyware or the trojan....

can someone tell me what the poblem is, and is there a master reset (sounds stupid, i know) that can completely wipe the computer of any files and start me from scratch.?i tried system restore but they dont work either. or is this simply norton being the selfish ***** it is?

Spybot is a good start, but there's more to it. An excellent system of easy steps to help you figure out what's going on is available at the link below. Best - it's all free. For real.

and follow the steps. They're very straightforward and easy. The guy's a professor @ R.I.T. and has/had several tech-talk shows.

Good luck.

download and run spybot search and destroy.

It is designed to remove spyware
unfortunately what the "official security gurus" tell me is that its all in my head and there is nothing wrong with any of the 3 computers I have had in 5 years, but yet the problem repeats itself on every computer. go figure
