I think my computer was hacked into...?

The other night my pointer was moving around erratically, and I eventually saw Netscape launch 'by itself.' I had many preventive measures already in lpace, took a number of positive steps immediately, and want to know what else to do short of reformatting.

Preventive measures already in place were up-to-date Norton firewall and antivirus (full scan about 48 hours prior), Pest Patrol, regular use of AdAware and Spybot S%26D, and a secure router requiring something like a 16 character password. Other laptop in house similarly equipped.

Immediate steps were to unplug router and DSL modem to get a new IP address (waited 10 minutes, logged in and made sure IP address was different). Ran scans with AdAware, Spybot S%26D, Norton, and Pest Patrol (all showed nothing).

Next step I foresee is to download current release of hijackthis.exe and post logs into forums at spywareinfo.com . I am also turning the computer off for any time I expect to be away for an hour.

I think you'd be best to get a HJT log seen to by experts. There's also a great team of experts at http://www.webuser.co.uk/forums/postlist... You will have to register but the guys there are absolutely brilliant. Good luck.
