Does anyone else have a problem with Java software? My antivirus keeps finding a downloader?

Whenever my virus scan runs, it always shows a downloader in my Java software. I can't figure out why and what to do about it.

Older versions of Java had security vulnerabilities and malware would store itself in the Java cache files. You should be able to delete the cache files by going to Control Panel, Java, General tab, Temporary Internet Files settings, and deleting the cache from there.

A even simpler way is to use ATF cleaner. It can delete all cached items including old prefetch, Java cache, cookies, etc in a couple easy steps.

You should also ensure you have the most recent version of Java installed. Problems can occur if you are running more than one version of Java as they can cause conflicts with each other. Furthermore, Java has a nasty habit of not removing older versions when updating to the newest so you have to uninstall old versions manually.

Assuming that you are in the Administrator account, go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and uninstall everything that says J2SE, Java and Java Runtime. Reboot (some computers require a reboot to complete the uninstall process). Then go to the site below and download the most recent version of Java.
